Quantum gravity (QG) is a field of theoretical physics that seeks to describe gravity according to the principles of quantum mechanics, and where quantum effects cannot be ignored, such as in the vicinity of black holes or similar compact astrophysical objects where the effects of gravity are strong.. Three of the four fundamental forces of physics are described within the framework of quantum. Supersymmetry is part of superstring theory, a string theory of quantum gravity, although it could in theory be a component of other quantum gravity theories as well, such as loop quantum gravity. For superstring theory to be consistent, supersymmetry seems to be required at some level (although it may be a strongly broken symmetry).
The Standard Model and Beyond presents an advanced introduction to the physics and formalism of the standard model and other non-abelian gauge theories. It provides a solid background for understanding supersymmetry, string theory, extra dimensions, dynamical symmetry breaking, and cosmology. The book first reviews calculational techniques in field theory and the status of quantum . 1. The very concept of a collection of quantum field configurations with gauge transformations between them is really that of a configuration groupoid, hence of a homotopy 1-type. More generally, in higher gauge theories such as those that appear in string theory, the higher gauge .

The articles in this book are written versions of talks presented at a conference organized by the TMR network in Corfu. The main theme of the conference was the interconnection between string theory and gauge theory.
These very recent developments draw from many aspects of string theory, supergravity and supersymmetric gauge field theory. 'The book can be considered as a valuable and updated addition to Steven Weinberg's third volume on Supersymmetry in The Quantum Theory of Fields series (, Cambridge University Press).

The third volume of The Quantum Theory of Fields is a self-contained introduction to the world of supersymmetry and supergravity. It will be useful both for experienced researchers in the field Author: Hans Peter Nilles. Work on the unification of the fundamental particle interac tions has continued vigorously since the first Europhysics study Conference on this subject.
At that time we emphasized the exis tence of. At R = 1 the theory decompacties while at the self-dual point R = 1 the winding and mo-mentum states acquire equal masses and gauge symmetry enhancement takes place.
The het-erotic string possesses the same kind of duality symmetry [2]. In the case of the type-II string theories, the situation is dierent. Get this from a library.

Quantum electrodynamics is an abelian gauge theory with the symmetry group U(1) and has one gauge field, the electromagnetic four-potential, with the photon being the gauge boson.
The Standard Model is a non-abelian gauge theory with the symmetry group U(1) × SU(2) × SU(3) and has a total of twelve gauge bosons: the photon, three weak bosons and eight gluons.
This book takes a pedagogical approach to explaining quantum gravity, supersymmetry and string theory in a coherent way. It is aimed at graduate students and researchers in quantum field theory and high-energy physics. The first part of the book introduces quantum gravity, without requiring previous knowledge of general relativity (GR).
A Grand Unified Theory (GUT) is a model in particle physics in which, at high energies, the three gauge interactions of the Standard Model that define the electromagnetic, weak, and strong interactions, or forces, are merged into a single gh this unified force has not been directly observed, the many GUT models theorize its existence.

The backgrounds are argued to be exact, special consideration are given to the non-maximal supersymmetry case. The issues in gauge.String Theory comprises two volumes which give a comprehensive and pedagogic account of the subject.
Volume 1, first published inprovides a thorough introduction to the bosonic string. The first four chapters introduce the central ideas of string theory, the tools of conformal field theory and of the Polyakov path integral, and the Cited by: The book deals with quantum field theory which is the language of the modern physics of elementary particles.
Written based on university lectures given by the author, the book provides treatments and technical details of quantum field theory, which will be particularly useful for students.
